about bloomfield

T. Gregory Bloomfield (he/him/his) is a composer and writer dedicated to connecting music to our relationships to memory, childhood, love, and culture. His works involve the distortion of time and obscures melodies to create hallucinogenic atmospheres for the mind to become lost within. Recognized for his “unpredictable” (Third Coast Review) sound and approaches, his works resemble an eclectic range of mediums, collaborations, and inspirations, regularly working across or becoming inspired by a variety of art forms.

His works have been performed internationally at notable venues and festivals such as the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Avaloch Farm Music Institute, Dublin International Chamber Music Festival, CBDNA, U.S. Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the International Clarinet Association New Music Weekend, and the Red Note New Music Festival. His works have been commissioned by the American Composers Orchestra, Opera Philadelphia, Karen Slack and the George Shirley Vocal Competition, New Music Chicago, NATS and the Cincinnati Song Initiative, the Owen/Cox Dance Group, and violinist Matt Albert.

Ty is the Edwin B. Garrigues Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music, pursuing graduate studies in Music Composition and is a Teaching Artist at Opera Philadelphia.
